Investing in Japan: A Foreigner’s Perspective
Investing in Japan as a foreigner often feels like looking through a glass wall. You can see the data and the charts, but the cultural nuance and the “why” behind corporate decisions often remain out of reach.
I started this website because I’ve spent the last decade trying to see through that glass myself.
A Decade of Learning I have lived and worked in Japan for over ten years. My career here hasn’t been spent in a detached research office, but within the local corporate environment. This experience hasn’t made me an “all-knowing expert” and if Japan teaches you anything, it’s that there is always more to learn, and it has given me a front-row seat to the unique rhythms of Japanese business culture.
The Mission: Context Over Just Content There are plenty of platforms that provide raw stock data. What I aim to offer is the context that a spreadsheet can’t capture.
- What is my perspective regarding the future performance of selected Japanese companies? While there is no binary answer, I try to highlight the different growth paths.
- How are Japanese products and services perceived here locally, and what importance do certain decisions have on the local market. Furthermore, what is the fundamental thought processes that lead to certain decision, that may seem not expected from an outside perspective.
- Share some “hidden champions”, that are unknown to the mainstream, but have a global reach with strategic importance.
A One-Man Endeavor This website is a personal project: A “one-man show.” I don’t have a team of analysts or a marketing department. It is simply me, sharing my observations and research as I navigate the landscape of Japanese equities.
Inspired by the “boots on the ground” approach to journalism, I believe that the most honest insights come from being present and being independent. My goal isn’t to provide a polished corporate product, but to offer a sincere, transparent look at the stocks I’m following, based on the reality of living and working in this country.
I don’t have all the answers, but I’m committed to asking the right questions and sharing what I find with honesty.
